2D and 3D Shapes

We have been having a lot of fun in Maths this week!

We have been revisiting 2D and 3D shapes in class, as well as remembering all about Symmetry.

We made pictures of 2D shapes....

And symmetrical patterns on our desks....

Sedimentary CHOCOLATE Rocks!

During Term 3 we have been learning about different types of rocks.



Today we used chocolate to make sedimentary rocks.

We grated the chocolate,

 Squished it down on gladwap into a cup,


 And broke it up to look at the different layers.

We compared it to the sedimentary rocks we have looked at in class....

And then we ate it all up!

Electricity - Science

During Term 3, we learnt about Electricity. We have learnt to put together wires, bulbs and bulb holders, batteries and switches. We can make a complete circuit which will make a bulb light up, and we can explain what might be wrong with a circuit when the light does not light up.

Police Visit

As part of our Making Laws topic this term, the Year Ones and Year Twos had a visit from Constable Watts, who is our local Community Constable.

 He showed us all the exciting things he keeps on his belt - pepper spray, handcuffs and a walkie talkie.

He showed us the lights and let us hear the LOUD sirens on his Police car!

And he gave us some really neat hats to colour in and cut out so we could pretend to be police!

We took a lot of care colouring them and cutting them out. We think we look pretty cool!

Money on your mind?

The Tui Class have been learning about money.

We have set up a classroom shop and have practiced earning money (by doing starjumps), counting money, spending money at our 'shop' and getting change.

It was a fantastic hands-on learning activity that everyone had great fun participating in, although it was very sad when the money ran out!

The Ravenous Beast Shadow Show

Our Term 1 Science focus has been Light and Dark, and Night and Day.
To finish off the unit, we worked together to make a puppet show of the book The Ravenous Beast.

We had a big-eared elephant...

We practiced and practiced, and then we performed our show for the Year One students. They LOVED it!

Silverdale Pioneer Village

As part of our "The Past" topic, the primary school visited the Silverdale Pioneer Village last week.
We had a fantastic day, looking at the way people in our area used to live.




We loved looking at the olden day toys....

 ...and the different forms of communication that people used to use, such as telephones, telephone switchboards, televisions, radios and typewriters.

We liked seeing how people used to bathe and
wash their clothes.

Our favourite room was the old school room.
Ashlee made a fantastic teacher ... even if she was a little bit bossy!

The Tui Class had a brilliant day. It helped us to understand that things were a lot different in the olden days.
Beds were harder, there were no electric lights or computers in homes. The people dressed a lot differently and the teachers were a LOT more strict than Mrs Clark is!

Science - Exploring light and dark, and making shadows

We have been learning about Light and Dark in Science, and part of this has been exploring shadows.
We made the smallest shadow we could…

And we took a while to decide how to make the biggest shadow we could…

And then we made our shadows run, hop and jump. 

Self Portraits

This week we finished our self-portraits. Don’t they look fantastic?

Can you guess who is who? It should be easy, we are very good artists here in the Tui class!

Maths, Maths, Maths!

What a busy few weeks we have had in the Tui Class!

We have been learning about estimating, ordinal numbers, odd and even numbers, and numbers that make 10 and numbers that make 20.

End of Term

Well, it is the end of Term 3 already!

Today, we had a fantastic day doing a Technology Challenge.

 The school was divided into groups and the aim was to build a freestanding bridge that could bear weight.

Some of the bridges were so strong that Mr Donovan used CHAIRS to test their strength!

Although not all the bridges were strong, rhere was a lot of great learning going on.

The best thing about today was seeing how wonderfully the Wentworth students worked together as teams. They helped and supported each other, which was fantastic to see.
