Maths Sheep

The Kea Class have been learning our basic facts - with help from our classroom sheep!

Art - Self portraits.

We have been painting pictures of our lovely selves.

 We started off by drawing our oval faces.

 We looked very carefully at where our eyes, noses and mouths were...

We had a look at our hair and drew it how we thought it looked.

 We had to go back and remember that we needed a neck in our picture so that our faces weren't floating!

We painted our skin...

 Then our hair...

Then our lips...

 And our eyes...

Once they are dry, we will add backgrounds and finishing touches.

Our paintings are looking very beautiful...just like us!

Welcome to Year 2!

Hi, and welcome to Year 2!

We have had a lovely start to the year. After a lot of discussion we have decided to be the Year 2 Kea Class.
Our mascot is Katie the Kea, who will go home with a different child each week. Katie brings with her a book which you can add to with writing and photos.

Volcano at school...

Sophie brought in her Volcano Eruption kit, so we shared all the exciting things we know about volcanoes.
We learnt the difference between Active, Dormant, and Extinct volcanoes and talked about what comes out of them, and how volcanic rock happens.

Then we headed outside and made our own volcano using citric acid and sodium bicarbonate with a bit of red dye. It was a really easy, fun experiment that would be fun to try at home!

Invisible Ink

During Term 3, we read a book about invisible ink...

Then we decided to make some.

Symmetrical Shapes

We have moved onto Symmetry - and we have been making our own symmetrical shapes and patterns on geo boards.

As you can see, this activity has been a lot of fun for everyone!

2D and 3D Shapes

We have been having a lot of fun in Maths this week!

We have been revisiting 2D and 3D shapes in class, as well as remembering all about Symmetry.

We made pictures of 2D shapes....

And symmetrical patterns on our desks....

Sedimentary CHOCOLATE Rocks!

During Term 3 we have been learning about different types of rocks.



Today we used chocolate to make sedimentary rocks.

We grated the chocolate,

 Squished it down on gladwap into a cup,


 And broke it up to look at the different layers.

We compared it to the sedimentary rocks we have looked at in class....

And then we ate it all up!

Electricity - Science

During Term 3, we learnt about Electricity. We have learnt to put together wires, bulbs and bulb holders, batteries and switches. We can make a complete circuit which will make a bulb light up, and we can explain what might be wrong with a circuit when the light does not light up.
